It's really the least I can do and I'm not the only one who tries to stick their neck out. A lot of the other instructors do the same. In a lot of cases we are talking to an 18-20 year old kid who has the heart but could not even graduate high school or had circumstances like a pregnancy that prevented them from doing so.

If we can build them up and give them their self esteem back then we can add one more person into our workforce. Granted, some are completely lost causes but we still try as hard as we can to find them a home.

The thing with union construction is that it's feast or famine. You might go solid for a year or two but then be absolutely dead for a few months. It's those times when we need the help. Teaching kids how to overcome that little process is where I like to come in. Plus I get to tell stories about me being a functioning alcoholic and why that's a bad idea.
