yeah, I'll have to report back to everyone about that. I'm not sure and like you I am very skeptical about things, so between the bit of research I did with the electric company and the company that is behind my installation, I felt confident in my decision.

What happens is, that I get credits for putting electricity back into the grid. My meter measures both output and input. At the end of the day, the credits are in the form of money but sometimes the sun doesn't shine around here lol, like winter and I'm still not sure how it's going to go with a snow covered roof yet..

But if I have enough credits built up, then it takes me through the gloomy days when I'm not producing without having to pay ComEd.. The credits are itemized every month and at the end of the year I have an option to take a check for my output, zero out my account and start over, or keep them flowing until next year end, so technically yes, I can use any credits I take in the form of a cash payment and stash it to pay the solar company.

My system is guaranteed to produce 120% of my current usage according to my last 5 years so I should be able to produce more power than I need forever.

I'm not sure if I'll cash out at the end of this year because it's only the first turnaround for me and that winter thing has me a bit nervous but we'll see how it goes.
