Of course. But we are, and have been--at least for the 20th and 21st centuries--a profoundly intellectual nation. We give lip service to "education", but don't want to pay for it, and don't respect educated people. In some parts of the country--typically red parts--teachers are very badly paid.

Blame yourself. And Trump, who speaks at a fourth grade level, and doesn't read anything longer than a page.
