Well, he IS stupid. And he's never been interested in learning anything, so he's also ignorant. The fact that his uncle taught at MIT is irrelevant, though he doesn't realize it.

I suspect he doesn't know much about water, either. And that he's afraid of it. It's said he's never spent time at the beach. He doesn't go near pools. I suspect he can't swim. He did once own a yacht, but I don't know how much time he spent on it.

And so perhaps he attributes magical powers to water. Remember the idiotic stuff about magnets not working underwater?
