Yes. European universities don't have any of that: no dormitories, no sports programs, no performance programs. Yet somehow European countries manage to turn out excellent athletes and performers.
However, in the States, while those sports programs cost a fortune, and while some coaches make bigger salaries than their universities' presidents, there is a return on that investment in the form of donations. All in all, though, we'd have done better not to go down this path.
Certainly they aren't paying most teachers a fortune, which is a shame.
