A transition fuel is needed for another generation or so until fusion, hydrogen cells, better technology in general is developed. Imo, nothing is better than NG as it tops oil, coal, wood, pedaling a bike...

Of course, this does not mean MRGE has any deals forthcoming but in what other direction would Mx take? Either they maintain the status quo of doing nothing, waste billions... on a product that is truly not a viable option or NG is in play?

Natural gas is a fossil fuel, and its environmental impact is a topic of debate. Let’s explore both sides:

Environmental Benefits of Natural Gas:

Cleaner than Coal:
Compared to coal, natural gas produces fewer greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants when burned for electricity generation or heating.

Efficient Combustion:
Natural gas power plants are more efficient than coal-fired plants, resulting in lower emissions per unit of energy produced.

Transition Fuel:
Some consider natural gas a “transitional fuel” because it can help countries shift away from coal while transitioning to renewable energy sources. It serves as a bridge until cleaner technologies become more widespread.

Criticism and Controversy:

Methane Emissions:
Natural gas extraction, transportation, and distribution can result in methane leaks. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas, and its impact on global warming is significant.

Fracking Concerns:
Hydraulic fracturing (fracking) used to extract natural gas has environmental risks, including water contamination and habitat disruption.

Long-Term Sustainability:
While natural gas may be cleaner than coal, it is still a fossil fuel. To achieve long-term sustainability, we need to transition to renewable energy sources like wind, solar, and hydroelectric power.

EU’s Classification:

The European Commission classifies natural gas as a “transitional fuel.” Investments in natural gas can be considered green if power plants emit less than 270g of CO2 equivalent per kilowatt-hour and use lower-carbon gases (e.g., green hydrogen) for combustion.
The EU’s taxonomy allows power plants burning natural gas to be considered generators of green energy, alongside nuclear power. However, this decision has sparked controversy, with some countries expressing concerns about its impact on emissions reduction goals.
