The horses are a lot more 'acceptable' than killing a young pet for any reason. I have an old friend that lives out on the border of the Dakota's and some farms are 50 miles or more from the nearest town or neighbor. Putting down a very sick horse if it can't stand up and you're not going to attempt driving the poor thing all those miles. But those are farm and livestock types.

All the people I know that I could say have full functioning farms short of commercial always told me you don't put pet names on soon to be menu items.
