I once got into an argument online about kolacky. From me, coming a mostly eastern European upbringing it is a very light pastry with a fruit filling sprinkled with powdered sugar and eaten as a dessert.

Apparently in the southern US a kolacky is any type of meat wrapped in a same type of pastry but eaten as a meal.

I never knew the language difference until our back and forth. LOL I still didn't concede my position but I understood...
