We've discussed the handwriting thing in the past. This is ridiculous:

Others have said signing important documents would be stressful without the ability to write in cursive.

If they're really concerned about that, maybe they really do have subpar IQs. Creating a signature has nothing to do with cursive writing. Signatures are a form of self-expression, and are not intended to be legible. They're intended to be unique.

I think this whole "crisis" is a red herring. My own guess would be that kids aren't encouraged to read enough.
