HOUSE REPUBLICANS PROPOSE RENAMING MAJOR U.S. AIRPORT AFTER PRESIDENT TRUMP

House Republicans in Congress are running with the idea of renaming the Washington Dulles International Airport in the state of Virginia after President Donald J. Trump, according to a bill introduced by Rep. Guy Reschenthaler, R-Pa.

The bill, H.R. 7845, proposes to rename the airport as the “Donald J. Trump International Airport,” and according to the legislation, it currently has six Republican co-sponsors in the House: Reps. Michael Waltz (Fla.), Rep. Andrew Ogles (Tenn.), Rep. Charles Fleischmann (Tenn.), Rep. Paul Gosar (Ariz.), Rep. Barry Moore (Ala.), and Rep. Troy Nehls (Texas).

In comments made to Fox News Digital, Rep. Reschenthaler explained his reasoning for authoring the bill.

He stated, “In my lifetime, our nation has never been greater than under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump. As millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport, there is no better symbol of freedom, prosperity and strength than hearing ‘Welcome to Trump International Airport’ as they land on American soil.”

The Washington Dulles International Airport is one of the busiest in the nation. Newsweek reported that it was 33rd in passenger traffic nationwide out of 764 U.S. airports.

Renaming the D.C.-area airport would represent an important presidential commemoration, which has become an American tradition. Perhaps the most well-known airport in the D.C. vicinity is the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, also in Virginia.

The House of Representatives will not return to D.C. to consider the bill until April 9, after their Easter recess. However, it seems likely that the bill will face heavy opposition in the U.S. Senate, which the Democrats currently control.

Rep. Reschenthaler emphasized on X on Tuesday, “Freedom. Prosperity. Strength. That’s what America stood for under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump — the best president of my lifetime. And that’s why I’m introducing legislation to rename Dulles as the Donald J. Trump International Airport.”
