??? Interesting the part about gold dust! I never thought about the ships carrying gold ore flakes or dust for some reason I was always thinking the Spanish would melt it into bars, ingots, looking forward to what they find. Is it possible they are going to use it for other small treasures? Precious stones? Etc? No idea. Jmo

Just a reminder that the 'S.S.Central America' was an American steamship carrying California gold. Many of the miners returning home still had their gold in nuggets and dust.

With regard to Spanish galleons and treasure, In the book "The Lost Treasure of the Concepcion" by John Grissim (about Burt Webber's discovery of the galleon) on page 183 it says that while excavating with the venturi out of the sloping ceiling and walls of the' money hole' pieces of eight were sliding out when suddenly a stream of gold dust streamed out and into the suction mouth. So, saying some Spaniard on that ship was carrying dust.
