Here's where the jewish last names came from:

Back in the day, in Germany, jews only had one name....their first name.........

But Germany required them to have a last name..........so when they registered their last name, they just made something up.

goldman, rosenblum (rose bloom in German)...silver stein (silver stone in German) etc etc.

My father (a German) told me that story........
