Biden Administration in No Rush on GSE Reform
(despite pie in the sky Biden assumptions - in an "election year"
this is a complete 100% TRUMP TRADE issue)

“The administration is committed to housing finance policy that increases
the supply of housing that is affordable for low- and moderate-income
households, expands fair and equitable access to homeownership and
affordable rental opportunities, protects taxpayers, and promotes financial
stability,” the budget proposal says. “The administration has a key role in
shaping, and a key interest in the outcome of, housing finance reform,
and
stands ready to work with the Congress in support of these goals.

The Biden administration released its budget proposal for fiscal year 2025 Monday.
The proposal included various housing-related tax breaks detailed by
President Biden last week during the State of the Union address.

The proposal also includes a section addressing the :
“future of the housing finance system,” specifically, the future of the
government-sponsored enterprises.

“Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are in their 15th year of conservatorship,
and the Congress has not yet enacted legislation to define the GSEs’
long-term role in the housing finance system,” the budget proposal notes.

Rather than detail plans for how the conservatorship of the GSEs should
be resolved, Biden’s budget proposal punts on the issue.

“The administration is committed to housing finance policy that increases
the supply of housing that is affordable for low- and moderate-income
households, expands fair and equitable access to homeownership and
affordable rental opportunities, protects taxpayers, and promotes financial
stability,” the budget proposal says. “The administration has a key role in
shaping, and a key interest in the outcome of, housing finance reform,
and stands ready to work with the Congress in support of these goals.”
