It wasn't the truck driver's fault...

It started when a vehicle traveling south on the bridge hit a stalled vehicle.

After impact, police say the driver lost control and went into the northbound lane and hit the semi.

That caused the semi keep going and then run off the bridge.

The semi went over the edge of the bridge before being wedged and left dangling.

Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg and officials gave an update Saturday afternoon on the status of the Clark Memorial Bridge in downtown Louisville following Friday's semi-truck crash.

As of around 5 p.m. on Saturday the bridge was partially reopened to traffic, but sidewalks remain closed.

Mayor Greenberg said in during the update that plans for the southbound left lane and both northbound lanes were to be reopened by 6 p.m. Saturday night.

Traffic control devices were being placed to allow for the reopening. Transportation officials are developing repair plans that may require traffic management adjustments once contracted work begins.

The assessment confirms that the bridge is safe for vehicular travel and that the bridge's structural integrity is intact.

Most of the damage is confined to the sidewalk structure which is why that will be closed to the public for an undetermined amount of time.

A woman in a semi-truck crashed into the railing on the bridge Friday around noon.

After impact, police say the driver lost control and went into the northbound lane and hit the semi.

The semi went over the edge of the bridge before being wedged and left dangling.

Louisville Fire Department and other first responders worked to get to the woman out of the dangerous situation and to safety back on the bridge.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the semi suffered serious injuries and is being treated at UofL Hospital.

Crews got the truck cleared off the bridge Friday night. Then, KYTC inspection crews began to assess the damage. They resumed inspection during daylight on Saturday.

KYTC said engineers were at the crash site on the bridge since early Saturday morning to make their assessments and inform next steps.
