Telkonet iWire System installed by Power2 to solve broadband access and networking for the Listowel Arms, a heritage hotel in South West Ireland.

Telkonet, Inc., the US-based leader in providing in-building broadband access over existing electrical wiring, announces that it has appointed Power2 as a reseller for Ireland. A specialist integrator of Broadband over Powerline technology, Power2 has completed its first installation of the Telkonet iWire System, at the 50-bedroom Listowel Arms Hotel - a boutique-style hotel in County Kerry, Ireland.

The hotel needed to deploy a high-speed Internet access solution throughout its premises, but was faced with a variety of architectural challenges. The building's original 19th century architecture, and the constructional mix of subsequent additions, made wireless impractical as a site-wide solution and CAT 5 was deemed too disruptive to install. Power2 therefore proposed a new and totally non-intrusive option - installing the Telkonet iWire System to transform the venue's existing electrical wiring into a broadband network backbone. This essentially turned every power socket into a potential data port, enabling high-speed Internet access anywhere in the building from one simple installation.

Secure high-speed Internet is now accessible throughout the hotel's executive and standard rooms, as well as in the banqueting and conference suites. The same network backbone is used to drive a wireless hotspot in the bar and restaurant, and allows further WiFi access points to be deployed in the public and conference areas as and when required. Additionally, Telkonet's backbone provides the connectivity for office network requirements, as well as for the installation's zero-configuration billing gateway and voucher printing solution. It also enables the rapid future integration of other IP devices, such as surveillance cameras and digital signage.
