In my opinion, the Holy Spirit prevented the writer from sharing with us what Paul’s thorn was in order for it to be applicable to all Christ followers (past, present and future). I believe that we all have a “thorn in our side”, and it can be anything that the evil one uses against us as we walk through this fallen world. God used Paul’s thorn to keep him humble, and I would venture to say that is the primary reason that God allows us to keep our thorns – as pride seems to be one of the evil ones best tools against humanity. As a child of God though, we know from Romans 8:28 (for those that love Him) that the Lord uses all things for our ultimate good and His glory. So, whatever it is that we struggle with – God is with us, as He promises that He will never leave us or forsake us.
