Pro-Life South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem Meets With Donald Trump About Potential VP Nod

Republican South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, who is reportedly under consideration for the Vice President shortlist, had a meeting with former President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago on Monday. Noem is one of a handful of top Republicans on Trump’s list of potential running mates.

As governor, Noem has been a solid pro-life advocate.

“Every human life is unique and beautiful from the moment it is conceived. Every life is worthy of our protection, worthy of the right to live,” Noem has said about her efforts to protect babies from abortion.

In her sixth year as governor, Noem is continuing pro-life efforts to protect babies and serve mothers. In January, Gov. Noem issued a proclamation declaring 2024 as Freedom For Life Year in South Dakota, saying life is precious beginning at conception and calling attention to the crucial first 1,000 days of a child’s life.

“In order to live a healthy life, we must first have the freedom to get off to the right start. That freedom extends to every single South Dakotan – before they are born; after they are born; until the day they die. Later this week, I will proclaim that 2024 will be ‘Freedom for Life Year’ in South Dakota. . . Being pro-life means valuing the child’s life before their birth and throughout their life; it also means valuing and protecting that mother’s life.”

In the speech, Noem highlighted the South Dakota Bright Start program which her administration recently expanded to more communities. The program serves moms and babies from pregnancy until the child’s second birthday. The governor also highlighted Life.SD.gov, a site her office launched the day the Dobbs decision came down to provide resources for pregnant women, new parents and adoption.

That prclamation followed her signing multiple pro-life laws to protect babies from aboritons — including one that bans mail-order abortions.

Earleir this year, Noem and South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley released a joint letter saying that any pharmacies that break state law by selling the abortion pill will be prosecuted. The state currently bans all abortions, so any pharmacy selling the mifepristone abortion drug would be breaking that law that protects babies from abortions.

“South Dakota will continue to enforce all laws including those that respect and protect the lives of the unborn,” Noem and Jackley said in the letter.
