You make me laugh.

Why does clothing need to be tougher than it is now? How many times have you smoothly moved into a bodybuilding pose and ripped your clothing with those bulging muscles?

Have you used your hoodie as an impromptu rope to tow another vehicle behind your car?

Silkworm silk is actually pretty strong. It’s not used often because of its expense and because it can fall apart in the washing machine.

All sorts of characteristics are considered when designers select fibers for their designs. Toughness is seldom an issue of concern. Cost, look, feel, dye acceptance, washability, abrasion resistance, and many other factors are taken into account. Being really tough — not a big deal.

Clearly there are other applications where this is a big deal. But KBLB is targeting luxury streetwear and, for that market, existing fibers are tough enough.
