The question becomes 'who funds the UPC'?
40. How would the UPC be funded and will there be court fees?
The operation of the UPC would be funded entirely by court fees, although participating member states are expected to pay at least some of initial costs for establishing the court. (from https://www.fr.com/pages/unitary-patent-faq/ )

Funded by court fees is fine. When governments (with politicians who receive tons of $ from big company's and then do their bidding in a diabolical quid pro quo arrangement) get their hands into the courts, it puts the legitimacy of the court and it's rulings into question. Is that what has happened with the PTAB or is it even more nefarious, when members of that panel used to work for those large companies. It's hard for anything to be done honestly and properly these days.
