American investments in Albania have increased significantly year after year, but the potential is even greater. In an interview for SCAN TV, the Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce, Neritan Mullaj, states that the interest to invest is very high.
" We already see a significant increase in American investments in Albania, over 230 million, which compared to 2020 is more than twice. It is a figure that if you take the comparison part is impressive, but still for us it is an indicator of opportunities. It is much lower than we would like it to be. Why? Because we have great potential and space to increase American investments in Albania and especially the cooperation of Albanian businesses with American businesses ."
Among the most attractive sectors for American businesses are energy due to the great potential it has and tourism.
"We see a lot of attention in tourism. Tourism is currently the locomotive that is orienting the Albanian economy. Albania now also offers great opportunities for the energy sector, which is also one of the focuses not only because the need both in Europe and beyond has increased for energy, but because Albania has various sources of renewable energy and the business interest is growing. We are seeing that there is a lot of interest in hydro energy, solar energy, wind energy. Investment plans which I really hope will become effective".
But to attract new investments, there is a need for more attention in improving the business climate in the country.
" Undoubtedly, the main one is the business climate, which is very important for American investors so that they find an opportunity to be equal in competition, to have the opportunity to freely enter the market, the procedures are very transparent, very clear" .
The American Chamber of Commerce has registered as its members 260 companies with annual revenues of up to 3 billion dollars, which employ about 40 thousand employees.
During his recent visit to Albania, American Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that American companies are interested in renewable energy. According to Blinken, Albania has great potential to diversify Albanian energy sources to also help our shared planet and create inclusive economic growth for all, through assistance in hydro, wind and solar energy.
