I don't see it in terms of a straight line. That's why I'm a trader, as apposed to an investor. If someone is investing long term, I think they will do well.
But some postings seems to indicate that this is going to be a free ride to the promised land, with no pain involved. (Or so it might seem to a passer-by.)
I'd just remind people, that there is but ONE reason for a private company to go public.

And TO ME, it is just unreasonable for anyone to consider that these, or any, people would spend years building a company and then invite others to "hop on board and share in the riches for free".

Remember, existing shareholders have done nothing to build this new company. We just jump on board, hoping to catch a ride.
When they start selling shares, THEN you have to opportunity to actually contribute. (If I were them, this is how I would see it.)

All Just My Opinion.

A sure sign that the debate has been won:
When the response is an attack against the other person.
