That is incorrect.

Only ONE of the parent lines is homozygous. The other parent line is NOT. Therefore, you can't control which parent will contribute that gene. So some silkworms will contain the spider gene(s), and some won't. And you can't sell that (unless you test every worm for the spider silk gene, which would be cost prohibitive).

"One of those parental lines is .... homozygous for the spider silk gene. The next milestone .... will be to establish homozygosity with the second parental strain"



That "next milestone" could take years to happen, or it might never happen. Remember, KBLB has been failing to do this for over a decade and a half.

BTW, KBLB had announced that the ONE strain was homozygous back in December. So, it has been almost 2 months and they are still failing.

Wash, rinse, repeat.....
