imo...Marsha Blackburn ripped into the carrot top kid did you listen to her...... I think social media is a scourge to humanity for reasons you mention, not to mention it has become a mainstay and impediment in trying to even conduct business within one's own municipality due to rampant gossiping and gaslighting innocent people with rumors that may or may not even be factual. Young people new to the internet get sucked in and are led to believe it is even a replacement to the basic search engine....I had a solvent business until the advent of social media and local newspapers have a similar sentiment to express, it has destroyed the community newspaper editorials and classifieds, as well. Social media can go to hell as far as I am concerned.
