Chubby was signed and controlled
by Morris Levy/Roulette Records who in turn was
backed by the Genovese family who in turn controlled
Harlem at the time via their associate "Bumpy" Johnson.
Had they wanted Chubby at Smalls he would have been there, no doubt.
