That's absolutely NOT the way it works with a CII controlled substance like Oxycodone or Adderall. The Dr. prescribes a 90 day supply, and the entire 90 day supply must be filled at once, because if only a 30 day supply is issued, the regulations do not allow the remainder to be filled at a later date, and the patient will lose the other 60 days. The physician doesn't want to get involved in "supply chain" issues, and will tell the patient that he gave him/her a 90 day prescription, and will many times refuse another prescription until the 90 days should be up. So usually if a pharmacy doesn't have adequate supply to fill the entire 90 day supply, they will put the prescription into the computer in an unfilled but "on hold" status, and when they obtain the necessary supply, then the prescription is retrieved and filled completely, and the patient is notified that they can come pick it up. Or, the patient will leave with the prescription and try to find a supply at another pharmacy.
