discrete cosine transform in image compression treats an image block as if it were periodic and reconstructs any resulting jumps at the boundaries.....if in a quantum computing architecture would it be non-linear motion vector estimation? and periodic is 'time' related and could be transformed to frequency, so that larger blocks would require more high-frequency components to reconstruct these jumps accurately. usina the 8x8 blck size strikes a balance by avoiding excessive blocking artifacts without encoding too much high-frequency information. .....said copilot/parphrasing it.
