I’ve been doing some digging. I think this is very interesting and would love some thoughts. It’s a longer post but I think it is worth it.

1. I went through the Taasera Markman claims construction and I’m going to say as a non-lawyer it appears that Taasara did very well. Taasera won at least 70 patent claims whereas the defendants won at least 25. There were several claims where credit went to both parties as well as several decisions that I didn’t fully understand. That being said; it’s not how many claims you win but how powerful those claims are. There I can only guess but I’m excited! Why? Read below.

2. I posted recently that Palo Alto filed an appeal against Taasera and QPRC on October 5th. That appeal was dismissed when Palo Alto settled. Here is the link to the audio:

2023-1736: Palo Alto Networks, Inc. v. Taasera Licensing LLC - U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (uscourts.gov) -- If you put this in your browser it should come up

If you listen to the audio the defendants say that the only thing they now about Taasera is that they have an office in Plano, TX and how Jon Scahill and some other person from Germany are running the company. Germany? I looked on LinkedIn and Jon Scahill’s cousin Tim is living in Germany. Here’s a piece of his LinkedIn profile…

Here is a description of Taasera
Most security solutions today focus on events, processing millions and even billions of events to detect malicious behaviors. This approach does not scale and the future of detecting malicious behaviors and insider threat requires shifting the pivot point from events to systems. Our NetTrust and LiveTrust Network Dialog Correlation (NDC) engine looks for specific behavioral patterns as part of network- based dialogs with each system. TaaSera’s unique technology platform maps the behaviors without the use of signatures or sandboxes. The TaaSera team is comprised of security architects and subject matter experts with decades of experience in firewalls, intrusion detection, security event management, malware analysis and endpoint security.
