It does not always function that way in real life. You are giving aspects in "ideals". You must also consider a MM's role in stock prices as well. There are many companies who have unsold shares and yet the price continues to rise with buying demand. If a MM decides to increase the 'ask', they may do so and people will still purchase at the higher price. Much of a "stocks" price is "speculation". This is what can not be quantified, but has great influence.
