November 15 (SeeNews) - Alpex, a joint venture company of the transmission system operators of Albania and Kosovo, said on Wednesday it signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Greece's Independent Power Transmission Operator IPTO, the Greek energy regulator, and North Macedonia’s power transmission company MEPSO on establishing a common day-ahead electricity market.
“These two days of meetings and signing the MoU represent a lot more than agreement. It's a statement about the power and importance of regional cooperation that we are building to have extra safeguard mechanisms at a time when energy security is of highest importance,” the CEO of Alpex, Sokol Dishnica, said as quoted in a social media post.
The MoU also envisages collaboration in promoting regional energy transition and energy security.
Alpex was founded in October 2020 by Albania’s power transmission system operator OST and its Kosovo counterpart KOSTT as shareholders with 57.25% and 42.75% interest, respectively. Its first day-ahead auction for the Albanian market was held in April.
