When this galectin-3 pathway disease process is kept in check, it stabilizes portal hypertension, with the goal of reducing the formation of esophageal varices that develop from excess portal hypertension. Many cirrhosis patients die from bleeding varices. GALT could potentially offer a breakthrough treatment for the subgroup of patients who have not developed varices yet, by repeating prior phase 2 results in this phase 2/3 adaptive trial. As an investment it is very interesting because the stock price is so low right now compared to the risk/reward which I think is pretty good. If successful with the next readout the market cap could jump to billions.
