To accomplish all this you don't need the shareholders, you actually can ignore them. The flourish, flattering wording to them in the pr's or private responses is IMO feigned politeness (completely contrasting the hard reality) and shows CEO's known readiness being dishonest, some may say intentionally lying.
As I for one am ready to bear my (meanwhile massive) losses I may be naive still believing in an extraordinary good outcome. As paradoxical it may look right now!
