I don't have any real control over the Islamic Republic, nor do my tax dollars go to support them. They're a malign actor. I wonder what they'd have been if we hadn't overthrown their democracy in favor of BP all those years ago. I understand that they're somewhat hospitable to their Jewish community though. It's challenging at times, but the community chooses to remain.

A friend of mine traveled extensively in Iraq, under less than friendly circumstances, to be sure, but he tells me there were temples in small villages there as well. Iraq was pretty secular before we "brought them democracy" as it were. It was tribal and savage, to be sure, but it was a far more modern society than any around them.
