They always do. Shares are locked up for a period of I believe 1-3 days when a stock starts trading under a new symbol. It essentially takes the float out of the equation which tends to skyrocket the price. If mm's r short, the have to cover at a much much higher price, while they hope for a price drop before prior retail can join in (when those shares can be traded again).

For my own education, why would MMs bring down the share price like this before the Cusip/ticker change?
