Electricity, Albania aims to become a bridge between large consumers
2023-10-08 11:31:48

Albania is implementing long-term plans in terms of increasing electricity transmission capacities.

The administrator of the Transmission System Operator (OST), Skerdi Drenova, stated at the Energy, Construction and Green Economy fair that the country is following a long-term development plan that looks to 2050.

"We have an interconnector between North Macedonia and Albania, for which work has begun and is expected to be completed within 18 months. We are also looking at the other line that connects us with Greece, which will double the energy capacities between our two countries", said Drenova, "RTSH" reports.

According to him, attention is being focused on alternative energy sources. He said that in 2030 it is predicted that Albania will have over 320 megawatts of energy that will come from the wind and at least over 600 megawatts from the sun.

By the end of 2023, he added, there are at least 200 megawatts, 150 from Karavastaja and 50 from small producers associated with OSHEE.

"By 2030 we expect to have over 1 Terra of additional electricity to be injected into the systems. Therefore, we are improving the internal lines, but at the same time, Albania aims to become a kind of connecting bridge between large consumers, such as Italy, and producers, such as Greece, Bulgaria and Romania", declared the head of the OST.

Drenova pointed out that starting next year, it is predicted that Albania will be a net exporter in some hours of the day. (Irma)
