"My experience is that if this stock goes dark and no bid/ask then the opportunity to sell thru a broker and captuue the capital loss will also be gone. TD Ameritrade (soon to be in the Schwab group) has a form that can be used to sell a worthless stock for one penny and get it off the books and show the Capital Loss for tax purposes but only as long as there is a bid and ask price. Consult your own broker or your past experience and if you have other insights you might reply to this message. For the private placement Certificates I think there is nothing that can be done - but would be glad to hear otherwise.
