Another quick comment: Norco is hydrocodone +325mg Acetaminophen. There is also hydrocodone +300mg acetaminophen on the market (generic Vicodin). Medically there is no difference, but oddly the combo with 300mg acetaminophen is a bit more expensive. It would be a different ANDA filing.



It's not odd it's the FDA. The problem with Vicodin was not the amount of hydrocodone but rather the amount acetaminophen. FDA declared no combo can have more than 325mg acetaminophen, which immediately wiped branded Vicodin and all generic equivalents off the market. Norco already had exclusivity at 325mg, so when Vicodin eventually came back on market, it was as an expensive branded product with 300mg acetaminophen. It has generics now, so it has come down in price, but let me tell you back in the heyday, generic Vicodin was king in the North and generic LorTab was king in the South (as in "Please doc you gotta write on there I can only take the blue loratabs.")
