The different studies revealed that the spider’s silk fiber consists of at least two outer layers of lipids, i.e., fats. Behind them, inside the fiber, there are numerous so-called fibrils running in a straight, tightly packed side-by-side arrangement (see illustration). The fibrils have a diameter ranging between 100 and 150 nanometers, which is below the limit of what can be measured with a regular light microscope.

Thanks for the info. After reading the article the biggest challenge would be to create fibers with such a small diameter and then combine them and contain them either with an outer envelope or without the outer sleeve relying on some sort of adhesive material that would make them work in unison. I understand the research to gain understanding but with what is available today to create such thin fibers and then combine them is quite the hill to climb. It still appears at this time that cost effective spidersilk production can only be attained by spiders or silkworms. Anything can be produced, goo or spun by spider or silkworm, but at what cost. There is a market for both I am sure.
