In the real world, actual traders understand the fact that a pump and dump is exclusively a compensated awreness campaign that assists in the the dilution of a stock that permanently increases the O/S and damages shareholders in the long run.

Here's a story on a high school kid that was busted by the SEC for a pump and dump scheme, and yes they did in fact use that phrasing. He would simply buy some shares, tout them and then sell them. That's all. Nothing like your "definition" that tries to portray only a specific situation as qualifying.
