Real quick thought, so the shares in the new venture are awarded to "shareholders of record 2 days prior to and held through 8/31". Anyone selling those shares today and tomorrow loose that dividend.
Let us say that the company is worth $100 and there were 100 shareholders that dividend is basically worth $1 worth of shares in that company.

Anyone that holds the GNS shares through this period will be entitled to the shares anyone that sells and buys back does not get those shares.

$100 half of those 100 sold so there are 50 left is entitled to $2 worth of ownership in that entity.

Anyone that wants those dividend shares should not sell today or tomorrow.

Now if you bought your shares from shorts it is too late for them to cover because the dividend is attached to the shareholder, not a "share" IMO the shorts need to convince anyone holding shares with dividends attached to sell them and buy back to loose that attachment but when they do the dividend shares will be worth more money it is a catch 22 for them. Very interesting. I don't have enough invested here to have a dog in this race.
