"I tend to agree with you. Few things are more sobering than truly being legally served and coming to the realization of what that means. Hiring an attorney, being dependent upon said attorney to navigate discovery, filings, pleadings, court dates, pre-trial hearings and, God Forbid, a trial, a vindictive plaintive can really run these things out and, irrespective of the outcome, the defendant can be out tens of thousands of dollars. Add to this the fact that very rarely are court costs awarded to the prevailing party because there is almost always some degree of mis-step on the part of the defendant, obviously it gets worse if intentional and damaging actions are proven, that would be the damage award.....but the good news is that you get to live life with this hanging over your head for at least a year; all just because you wanted to sound smart when actually you were just spouting an opinion that you represented as fact........the true definition of "play stupid games, win stupid prizes"..... at some point the people being lied about should fight back. I love the smell of Schadenfreude in the morning....it smells like victory."
