President Andrés Manuel López Obrador rejected that Octavio Romero Oropeza, general director of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), has been dismissed and in his place Sergio Ayala Salvio, national leader of the Union of Oil Workers of the Mexican Republic (STPRM).
During the morning press conference on August 17 , the federal president said he was aware of the document that is circulating on social networks and that indicates the change in the direction of Pemex . "What do we say to that? Just saying, it is not true, because there are some who do believe it, ”he declared.
It was during the night of Monday, August 14, when a document headed by the Presidency and presumably signed by López Obrador was disseminated through X, formerly Twitter, and other social networks.
"Once the maximum time is up for engineer Octavio and his work people, have everything ready to proceed to deliver the position of General Director of Pemex, you and your work team must attend to carry out the transition in an orderly manner and assume the aforementioned position ”, reads the forged letter addressed to Ayala Salvio.

In addition, the presumed entry of the STPRM leader would take place in 15 business days. It should be noted that the departure of Romero Oropeza was also immediately rejected by Pemex.
"Not my signature"
But that was not all. A video was even released where the letter is supposedly officially read.
“A character comes out and they also tell me that even with the public and he reads a letter supposedly written by me in which I name him director of Pemex and he reads it and everyone applauds it,” López Obrador said Thursday.
“Octavio, the director of Pemex, must have said 'it is not true if I am the director', but there is my forged signature. (...) It's not my signature, sometimes I don't do it the same way because I have my crooked finger , ”he added.

In this regard, the spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic, Jesús Ramírez Cuevas , intervened and pointed out that the falsification of the signature of the leader of the Executive is a crime. However, he did not specify whether they will fully investigate the situation.
Romero Oropeza has served as director of Pemex since December 1, 2018 -that is, since the beginning of the six-year term of López Obrador-. However, he has been identified as a possible candidate for governor of Tabasco, so he would have to leave his position if he wants to participate
