Albania will also produce electricity from the wind. This is another important step towards increasing capacities and diversifying energy resources, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Energy Belinda Balluku on the occasion of announcing the winners of the first wind auction in Albania.
The competition launched on June 12, 2021 is based on strong legal foundations, said Mrs. Balluku. 14 national and international companies applied for the auction, but only 3 companies were declared winners for the final stage.
The construction of wind farms is a very important link for the diversification of energy resources, said Mrs. Balluku, adding that "We feel proud when energy resources comply with the EU's green agenda."
According to the deputy prime minister, participation in this competitive process was allowed for a minimum capacity of 10 megawatt-hours and a maximum capacity of 75 megawatt-hours.
"Through this process, MIE will select projects that will benefit from the general support measure for an amount of no less than 150 kilowatt-hours, but we are open to having even more, if the price would be very good and the offer valid, given that every megawatt-hour is valued today, even more so when it comes from renewable energy", said Mrs. Balluku.
The 3 companies qualified in the final phase for the construction of wind farms, Verbund AG (Austrian), Total Eren SA and KMV shpk (French and Albanian), Guris Insaat ve Muhebdislik As & Mogan Energji Yatirim Holding As (Turkish) & BRD Energy shpk (Albanian) were announced today as winners in the first auction held today.
Verbund AG with a capacity of 72.6 megawatts offered the price of 74.95 euros per megawatt.
Total Eren SA and KMV shpk with a capacity of 75 megawatts offered a price of 44.88 euros per megawatt.
Guris Insaat ve Muhebdislik As & Mogan Energji Yatirim Holding As (Turkish) & BRD Energy shpk with a capacity of 75 megawatts offered a price of 74 euros per megawatt.
The three companies have completed the capacity in megawatts, giving a total of 222 megawatts, and as a result, the three companies are declared winners of the auction.
Albania is among the few countries in the world that produces renewable energy, almost 99 percent from HPPs.
The country aims to diversify energy production with solar and wind energy, in order to become an energy superpower in the Balkans in the not-too-distant future.
