I don’t understand what defines an “abusive short sale” and how that differs from a lawful short sale. Is a “naked short sale” the same as abusive short sale? I get the (FTD) failure to deliver issue, but if delivery is never required, a naked short sale would never be identified or called out.

There is a lot of social media drama over another stock that was frozen in some acquisition action and now left unreconciled, allegedly due to a large amount naked shorts that had no FTD. This is a game over, event in my view.

Requiring smart contracts in the reconciliation of trades could correct the lack of trading platform transparency used to enable unlawful behaviors in a fair market system of systems between commercial retailers and those private trading platforms.
