As an M & A Business Broker in FL for 20+ yrs, when I read Bacardi purchased a part of Illegal Mezcal, I see it as Barcardi as an owner of a percentage of a private company. Nothing more than that. The owners vote on the direction of the company. My guess is Bacardi purchased more than 50% maybe more than 67% so they control the direction of the company.

The private company may be folded into the Bacardi conglomerate as a cash transaction with agreed-upon incentives.
