I agree. It works. But modern patents don't require proof. The patent author can make whatever claim they like, as long as they are not infringing on a previous invention, the patent office is happy. Some companies purposely write the description of the invention in a subversive way (don't give all the details) to prevent other companies (outside the US) from copying the invention, or changing a small detail, and then patenting their own version with the claim that it is better in some way.

There are piles of patents where the author claims to know how something works, but because the patent office doesn't care about that, the patent is granted anyway. The "Dean Drive" is a famous example- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dean_drive
