I want to thank the two posters who submitted the AFRL article published today, mentioning Musk Ox and Keratin. The article prompted me to review two of Kraig's pending patents.

I will add, in all fairness, the road that the Cornell and AFRL lab need to take in order to commercialize keratin, will be a bit easier than Spibers, Bolt Threads, and Amsilks, in their developement of spider silk fibers and proteins.

This is because keratin is a much smaller protein than spider silk. So the Cornell Lab should expect that the fibers created from the fermented proteins will have similar properties to the native muskox keratin, with a certain degree of confidence. They will still need to deal with the essentially insurmountable endeavor of making the fibers cost effectively.

This is in contrast to Spiber, Bolt Threads, and Amsilk, who have a much inferior product than native spider silk AND need to deal with overwhelming economic challenges
