One way to check on the true state of US consumers (and others), what's happening over in China's industries. Nothing good. In fact, there isn't a single datapoint that shows reopening is anything but a bust. Industrial profits plummeted again...in March.

Census revised retail trade inventories much higher than previous thought (~$20bln more), which means the economy had a much bigger inventory problem last year. More inventory on the way up, bigger adjustments to be made on the way down.
