It'll be interesting to see how far Joe's DOJ will pursue charges against Hunter for lying on an application to buy a firearm!

The possible charges are two misdemeanors and two felonies, including lying on a federal form to obtain a firearm.

Federal prosecutors are reportedly weighing charging Hunter Biden on four counts—three charges related to tax fraud and one charge connected with the purchase of a .38 revolver.

The potential tax crimes include two misdemeanor counts for failing to file taxes and one felony count of tax evasion related to a business expense, and one possible felony charge for allegedly lying on a federal form related to a 2018 gun purchase in Delaware, according to NBC News.

The investigation into President Joe Biden’s son began in 2018 regarding his international business ties, but more recently evolved to focus on his taxes and the gun purchase. The Washington Post actually reported on the charges in October, which makes sense, as two senior law enforcement sources told NBC News that the FBI was experiencing “growing frustration" because it had completed the majority of the work on the case a year ago. Similarly, the outlet reported that a senior law enforcement source said the IRS also finished its inquiry over a year ago.

Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss will make the final decision as to whether to press charges against Hunter Biden.

Earlier this week, a special agent for the IRS suggested there was mishandling of the case, and sought whistleblower protections in order to disclose information about the alleged mishandling. On Wednesday, the IRS whistleblower’s lawyer, Mark Lytle, said in a letter that his client has information about a “failure to mitigate clear conflicts of interest in the ultimate disposition” of an investigation into Hunter Biden, and his client has “examples of preferential treatment and politics improperly infecting decisions and protocols that would normally be followed by career law enforcement professionals in similar circumstances if the subject were not politically connected.”

Lytle sent the letter to the chairs and ranking members of several House and Senate committees, AP reported. The letter continued, “Despite serious risks of retaliation, my client is offering to provide you with information necessary to exercise your constitutional oversight function and wishes to make the disclosures in a nonpartisan manner to the leadership of the relevant committees on both sides of the political aisle.”

In response to reports of the whistleblower, Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), chair of the House Oversight Committee, said in a statement: “It's deeply concerning that the Biden Administration may be obstructing justice by blocking efforts to charge Hunter Biden for tax violations.” Rep. Comer continued, “We've been wondering all along where the heck the DOJ and the IRS have been. Now it appears the Biden Administration may have been working overtime to prevent the Bidens from facing any consequences.”

When asked for the White House’s comment on the case and the IRS whistleblower on Thursday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said: “The President respects the rule of law and the independence of the Department of Justice.” She added, “The President has always been clear—during the campaign, during his presidency—that the Department of Justice should have independence, they should not be politicized, and they should be able to do their job independently, essentially.”

Similarly, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland said last month that he would not interfere with the DOJ’s investigation and emphasized Weiss’s role. “[Weiss] has been advised he is not to be denied anything he needs,” Garland said. “I have not heard anything from that office to suggest that they are not able to do everything the U.S. Attorney wants to do.”
