AMSILK ANNOUNCES EXTENSION OF SERIES C FINANCING TO EUR 54M

Once again, another fermentation company who is pivoting away from mass producing spider silk fibers. Except this time they call it "bio-fabricated silk protein material" instead pf "brewed protein".

I'm not sure when people will start to understand that these fermentation companies are not competitors. They all began with the idea of isolating spider silk protein and mass producing fibers out of it. They all have realized how prohibitively expensive that is. Now Spiber and Amsilk will take all the proteins their organism (yeast or e.coli) makes, and create a fiber out of that blend of many proteins. Congrats to them. They're products are 100% biodegradable and contain no microplastics! But they won't be able to mass produce spider silk protein analog cost effectively. In fact, spider silk is nowhere to be found in AMsilks PR.

They are not a Kraig Labs competitor any more.
