Actually this is kind of a no-brainer for a buy out. With over $100M cash someone could buy this for over $1 per share and get it almost for free.
There is at least 1 analyst (other than Needham) predicting that IBM is eyeballing this company as the two technologies are similar in product design, so the synergy would augment and expand IBM's technology and product base in quantum computing.
That said, I would not count on a sky high price. In my opinion around $4 per share, give or take is probably what to expect at most.
The trick here is to average down, which should not be difficult since it's trading at around .50 cents per share. Since the book value alone is over $1 per share because of RGTI's cash, it's almost a given that one can probably make a good profit by averaging down to $1 per share or less.
One other thing, RGTI has a FAB facility that manufactures their own quantum chips, which they just recently expanded. That would be a huge incentive to start looking at acquiring RGTI.
If one is thinking, why don't they just let RGTI fail and pick up the pieces at pennies on the dollar, that's unlikely. RGTI has cash to last several more years and that runway would allow them the time to develop product line and sales. In fact, it's predicted by some analysts RGTI will become at least break even within the next year or two.
